Los cuatro jinetes del Apocalipsis

Cuando escribo estas líneas, me imagino a los escritores tremendistas y que gustan teorizar sobre el último libro de la Biblia, el Apocalipsis, hablando y escribiendo sobre esa figura del libro citado y que ha incendiado a los artistas con pinturas escalofriantes.

Sí, porque los jinetes, montados sobre caballos de diversos colores, anuncian que sobre el planeta Tierra vienen: el hambre, la guerra, la peste y la muerte. ¿Suena todo esto escalofriante, no es así? Y claro, tiene que serlo, porque, en el fondo, se trata de la aniquilación de la vida en este mundo.

Pero, hoy no vamos a darle curso a las fantasías de fabricación humana aquí. Vamos a hablar de la guerra que se cierne entre Rusia y Ucrania. Guerra no declarada en los términos “tradicionales”, pero guerra, al fin y al cabo.

Que tiene raíces religiosas, también, porque enfrenta a dos líneas rivales de la Iglesia Ortodoxa que obedecen a los primados de Rusia y de Constantinopla.  ¿Sorprenden estas palabras? ¿Y por qué pueden causar sorpresas, cuando desde los tiempos remotos hombres y mujeres se han enfrentado a conflictos y han sufrido de matanzas horribles por causa de doctrinas opuestas a las creencias de una mayoría?

No sabemos cómo terminará este conflicto. Lo que sí sabemos es que Rusia no descansará hasta tener la certeza firmada que no habrá misiles nucleares de la OTAN apuntado a su territorio desde la frontera de Ucrania.

Y sabemos también, que los países de Occidente no cesarán en cortejar a Ucrania para que dé el paso de incorporarse al Pacto del Atlántico Norte.

Y mientras esto sucede, los cuatro jinetes montados en cuatro caballos de colores distintos, continuarán cabalgando, no solo en esos países en conflicto, pero, extendiendo su cabalgata en otros países del mundo, mientras ellos se plieguen a un lado o al otro de esta guerra sin sentido.

Modernamente diversos países del mundo se han enfrentado a conflictos bélicos cada 5 o 10 años. Solo hay que mirar las noticias que nos han llegado en los últimos 70 años y ser testigos de enfrentamientos y guerras fratricidas que llenan las pantallas de la televisión y que son destacadas en todos los medios de comunicación. Es la sed de hombres y mujeres, que, nunca se sacia de querer apoderarse de riquezas, territorios y de personas, sed que nunca parece apagarse.

Mientras tanto, comienzan a producirse esos ríos de refugiados que huyen, a veces con lo puesto, a lugares, donde suponen que respetarán sus vidas. ¡Y los grandes consorcios que fabrican armas están de plácemes! Porque al decir de los cínicos, las guerras producen también grandes beneficios económicos.

¿Será por eso que aquellos países “industrializados” prefieren mirar para el lado y no poner grandes detentes a estas guerras, ya que, al fin y al cabo, “poderoso caballero es don dinero”?

The four horsemen of the apocalypse

When I write these lines, I imagine the tremendous writers who like to theorize about the last book of the Bible, the Apocalypse (Book of Revelations), speaking and writing about that figure of the cited book and that has set artists on fire with chilling paintings.

Yes, because the riders, mounted on horses of different colors, announce that the planet Earth is coming: famine, war, plague and death. This all sounds creepy, doesn't it? And of course, it has to be, because, basically, it is about the annihilation of life in this world.

But, today we are not going to give way to human-made fantasies here. Let's talk about the war that looms between Russia and Ukraine. War not declared in the "traditional" terms, but war, after all.

That it has religious roots, too, because it confronts two rival lines of the Orthodox Church that obey the primates of Russia and Constantinople. Are these words surprising? And why can they cause surprises, when since ancient times men and women have faced conflicts and have suffered horrible slaughters because of doctrines opposed to the beliefs of a majority?

We do not know how this conflict will end. What we do know is that Russia will not rest until it has the signed certainty that there will be no NATO nuclear missiles aimed at its territory from the Ukraine border.

And we also know that Western countries will not cease courting Ukraine to take the step of joining the North Atlantic Pact.

And while this happens, the four horsemen, mounted on four horses of different colors, will continue riding, not only in those countries in conflict, but, extending their cavalcade in other countries of the world, as long as they fold to one side or the other of this pointless war.

Modernly, various countries of the world have faced armed conflicts every 5 or 10 years. You just have to look at the news that has reached us in the last 70 years and witness clashes and fratricidal wars that fill the television screens and are highlighted in all the media. It is the thirst of men and women, who are never satisfied with wanting to seize wealth, land and people, a thirst that never seems to be quenched.

Meanwhile, those rivers of refugees begin to take place who flee, sometimes with what they are wearing, to places, where they suppose that their lives will be respected. And the big consortiums that manufacture weapons are pleased! Because, according to the cynics, wars also produce great economic benefits.

Could it be for this reason that those "industrialized" countries prefer to look to the side and not put a big stop to these wars, since, after all, "a powerful gentleman is a gift of money"?
